Stream Popular Movies & TV Filmed in Baltimore

A couple sitting on a couch watching a movie.

While most major blockbusters are shot in Hollywood, a fair amount of movies and TV are actually filmed in Baltimore. Thanks to streamers like Amazon and Hulu, you can now watch great content that features exciting parts of our local community. Stream these three local productions from the comfort of our apartments in Baltimore:

Sleepless in Seattle

The movie’s title is Sleepless in Seattle, but let’s not forget that much of it actually takes place right here in Baltimore. Starring Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks, this 1993 film became an instant classic. Ryan plays a Baltimore-based journalist who falls in love with a man she hears call into a national radio show. The film features many great local spots, like Fell’s Point and The Baltimore Sun offices. You can stream it now on Amazon Prime.

The Wire

The Wire, now streaming on Hulu, is a compelling drama filmed largely in East Baltimore. Created by a former police reporter named David Simon, The Wire explores the inner-workings of Baltimore law enforcement. In fact, each season focuses on a different area of criminal justice. Don’t miss out on the series that critics refer to as the “best TV show of all time.”

John Waters’ 1988 movie Hairspray was filmed right here in Baltimore. After its initial release, the camp comedy went on to gain a true cult following. Hairspray follows Tracy Turnblad as she pursues her dream to star in a TV dance program. The setting for Tracy’s high school is Baltimore’s very own Mergenthaler Vocational-Technical High School. You can stream Hairspray on Amazon Prime.
