If you want to explore your creative side this summer, we’ve got just the thing for you. The Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) is currently offering remote courses online. We listed our favorite virtual art classes from the MICA that you can join from our Fells Point apartments:
Intro to Adobe Illustrator
This software is the industry standard for web and mobile graphics, logos, packaging, and more. The MICA’s introductory class teaches beginners how to navigate Adobe Illustrator. The class runs from June to August with weekly meetings every Monday evening. You can register online.
Sign up for this course on Adobe Photoshop to learn the basics of color correction, retouching, and image manipulation. You’ll learn how to work with brushes, layers, masks, and more. The class begins in late May and meets remotely every Thursday from 6:30 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. You can visit the website to register online.
Learning to Paint the Landscape
This art course teaches students techniques for painting afternoon and evening landscapes. Ultimately, you’ll leave this class with the fundamental tools you need to paint the beautiful landscapes of Baltimore. Classes meet remotely every Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. You can register online before the course begins on May 27th.
Needle & Wet Felting
Join this fully remote workshop to learn the basics of wet felt-making. You’ll learn about the properties of wool and other fibers, as well as the cultural roots of the techniques used to make them. This class will meet over the course of three Saturdays in June. Be sure to order pre-made kits ahead of time.
Botanical Illustration with Watercolors
In this four-session workshop, students will use watercolor pencils to create botanical illustrations. If you have no experience, that’s fine because this workshop is actually ideal for beginners. Classes begin on June 5th, so remember to register ahead of time.
After you sign up for virtual art classes from the MICA, continue developing your artistic side by exploring the art of glassblowing. To learn more about The Eden, please contact us.
