If you’re looking for a fun new activity, check out these great dance classes in Baltimore. Three of our favorite local studios offer a wide variety of styles for dancers of all backgrounds. Read on to learn more about the best dance studios near our apartments in Baltimore:
Baltimore School of Dance
A boutique-style studio, the Baltimore School of Dance welcomes students of all ages. Years ago, Amy Hornberger, the founder of BSD, started the school out of her home. However, as demand grew, she soon moved to a church, before finally opening the Falls Road location. Today, Amy continues to share her passion for dance with all of her students. She offers fun, yet challenging classes that encourage students to let loose and celebrate their individuality. Popular classes include open ballet, open jazz, and open modern/contemporary. You can easily sign up online.
Hampden Dance Arts
At Hampden Dance Arts, the teachers invite folks of all abilities to join in on the fun. For example, to make sessions feel less intimidating for beginners, they limit the size of each class. This allows them to offer students more personalized instruction. In addition to improving dance skills, Hampden’s classes also help students build strength and flexibility. Adult sessions include ballet, hip-hop, and modern/jazz. Most classes are held in the studio, but you can also attend some of them virtually from the comfort of home.
The Carroll School of Dance
Macee Whitehead, the founder of The Carroll School of Dance, began her dance career in 1995. Today, she holds classes year-round. She especially loves educating her students on the cultural movements behind different styles of dance. In terms of classes, Macee develops entirely new dance styles by combining multiple types of dance. For example, her “heels” class incorporates jazz, pop, grooves, and hip-hop. Of course, dancing in heels is encouraged, but entirely optional.
