Stretching across 200 acres, the¬†Cylburn Arboretum¬†in Baltimore is a stunning destination located just minutes from The Eden. While it began as a private home in the late 1800s, these days, its lush gardens and wooded trails are open to the public, completely free of charge. Luckily, it’s just a short drive from our Fells Point apartments. Read on to explore all that the Cylburn Arboretum has to offer:

Baltimore Bird Club

Whether you’re a beginning birder or a seasoned one, the Baltimore Bird Club welcomes everyone to join in on the fun. Over the years, folks have spotted more than 165 species at Cylburn. Indeed, it’s a popular place to watch migrating birds, and you may also see year-round residents like the tanagers and great horned owls.

Larrabee Garden

Featuring seasonal plantings, the Larrabee Garden is always a delightful place to visit. Fall brings an impressive display of blackberry lily, while the coral bark maple trees boast new red growth during the winter months. In addition, visitors can also relax on the bench and take in the sights and sounds of the nearby pond.

Nature Trails

On the nature trails, you’ll feel as though you’re out in the country. All together, the paths span 3.5 miles and range from easy to challenging. Along the way, you’ll see beautiful wildflowers cared for by a passionate group of volunteers. Highlights include Celandine poppies, asters, and goldenrod.

Volunteer Opportunities

Gardeners of all levels are invited to volunteer at the Cylburn Arboretum. While each season brings different opportunities, one thing remains consistent: donating your time to support a great local organization is always worthwhile. As you spend time taking care of the grounds, you’ll learn new skills and make lifelong friends. Tasks vary by interest, but they might include weeding, deer fence maintenance, or working as a docent.
