The Book Escape

Step into The Book Escape where you’ll find a collection of new and used books. There are over 40,000 books in storage in addition to what’s on the shelves. Visitors find a cozy reading nook in the mystery/thriller section, and a Reader’s Choice area featuring sticky notes about why the books are so great. The shop boasts a 4.5-star rating on Yelp, and the friendly staff enjoys making recommendations. The Book Escape is a 12-minute drive from our apartments.

The Book Escape also hosts monthly local author signings and participates in Federal Hill’s Main Street First Thursday event. 

Kelmscott Bookshop

The Kelmscott Bookshop, located just 14 minutes away, features both rare and used books. Owner Fran Durako grew up in Indiana, where she became passionate about reading. Today, she calls Silver Spring home. Fran enjoys sharing her passion with others and collects books about William Morris. Visitors are greeted by two friendly shop cats that were found as strays. Kelmscott offers something for everyone with categories including English, Biography, and Presidential History. 

The Ivy Bookshop

The Ivy Bookshop carries a broad range of titles with a focus on new fiction and non-fiction. Owner Emma Snyder is a Baltimore native who moved to Louisiana for a few years after reading The Moviegoer by Walker Percy. The shop offers a warm, inviting atmosphere, and is also known for its author readings which take place throughout the month. The Ivy Bookshop is a 20-minute drive from our apartments.
